“Beautiful cottage and well equipped as a holiday home.”

Everything that we needed was there. Set in a good quiet position for getting about, with good transport links and also great for the lovely walks. Would definitely visit again

The property

Located in Windermere, Cumbria, in the grounds of a 19th-century Victorian Lakeland residence, Elterwater is a charming reverse-level cottage.

Elterwater is a great spot for couples searching for a romantic getaway in the Lake District National Park, which is just moments from Lake Windermere. The front garden of your home-away-from-home, where you may enjoy your morning coffee while taking in views of the Lakeland Mountains, awaits you on arrival once you have parked your car in the designated off-road parking place.

To unwind, head to the ground floor's well-presented double bedroom, which includes a gorgeous freestanding bath for long soaks and an en-suite shower room for quick rinses before heading out to explore.

On the first floor you will discover the open-plan living area, complete with a well-equipped kitchen, where you can whip up a romantic supper for you and your other half to enjoy at the dining table for two.

Make plans for the next day's activities or unwind in front of your favourite TV show after dinner.

There are a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and pubs within a short distance of your hotel, including a popular inn, the Boardwalk Bar and Grill, and Boaters Bar, which both overlook the lake.

There are a variety of watersports activities available on Lake Windermere, including kayaking and sailing, as well as beautiful walks up to the overlooks at Queen Adelaide's Hill and Orrest Head Viewpoint, where you can take in the stunning views of the Langdale Pikes from above.

The Lake District Activities Centre offers gorge scrambling, rock climbing, and abseiling for those interested.

If that's not your cup of tea, why not check out the interactive exhibits at the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction?

If you're interested in history, head to Ambleside, where you'll find an ancient Roman Fort, a library and museum and a 70-foot waterfall.

Grasmere is the next stop, where you may see William Wordsworth's old house or the majestic National Trust Wray Castle in Low Wray. Elterwater is an excellent base from which to explore the Lake District.
