“From driving up to the property we were wowed by the size of the farm and the accessible fields we could explore with local public walks.”

The rooms were huge and all well equipped. The beds were all comfy and aside from the warm night's keeping us awake (and the late England match), we felt well rested. We loved the place so much that we cancelled our plans on the last day in order to relax and fully enjoy all the property and grounds has to offer. The rooms were huge and all well equipped. The beds were all comfy and aside from the warm night's keeping us awake (and the late England match), we felt well rested. We loved the place so much that we cancelled our plans on the last day in order to relax and fully enjoy all the property and grounds has to offer. Our puppy loved the stay, especially playing in the beck and fetch on the oak tree field. The wildlife was amazing. Swallows nesting at the farm, deer roaming the fields, bats on an evening and the local heron fishing each morning. We felt truly connected with nature and being able to relax outside every evening and eating breakfast outside by the beck each morning was bliss. The AGA was great to use and the kitchen had almost everything we needed. My husband missed having an electric kettle so we bought one from the local supermarket to add to the otherwise well supplied kitchen. We found the property clean and although there were some cobwebs and a bit of dust here and there, this is a huge farmhouse in the middle of the countryside, so nothing I wouldn't expect. The furniture was eclectic and interesting. My only suggested improvement would be to invest in a new suite for the main living room. I spent a night lying on the sofa when our puppy was unsettled and it smelt stale and dirty, but from looking at the photos its been there since 1970's. Its still comfy enough, though. We loved the selection of ornaments and paintings that gave the place character. I was saddened by the photos and various personal memories in draws, etc, such as old jewelry, wedding photos, diaries, orders of service from family funerals, school photos and holiday photos thrown into drawers. It gave the sense of a now unwanted and discarded past which was sad - we keep memory boxes and photo albums that are valuable keepsakes, but I wouldnt leave them lying around for strangers to find and look through. This is more of a personal value I have rather than it being something that would put me off staying at Stang Farm again. We loved the place; the space, character and tranquility. This place is definitely worth a visit and we were disappointed to leave!

Very much a home from home. Quality and clean bedding and towels. A well equipped kitchen. Beautiful working fireplace and wood supplied. The perfect escape from the busy! The property was peaceful with a tranquil river running right by. I hope to be back! It was a great and central location for our first exploration of the Lake District and I’m happy to recommend it.

Ok, it's a fair drive to get into The Lakes themselves, but to return each evening back to this property really made the holiday. So peaceful, plenty big enough, the wonderful brook... 10/10 all round. We would love to return another time.

“Upon arrival, we found that the house had not been properly cleaned.”

We needed to wipe down the cupboard shelves before putting food away, and the cutlery tray and dinner plates were also unclean and had to be washed. The dishwasher did not clean effectively and often required two cycles, and one of its wheels was broken. The ensuite shower did not produce hot water, meaning all five of us had to share one bathroom, which caused significant inconvenience in the mornings. The bath in the main bathroom also leaked when the shower was used, and the water ran down onto the stairs below, which was both inconvenient and potentially unsafe. We noticed a large number of flies, wasps, and ladybirds throughout the house, contributing to the feeling of poor cleanliness. One windowsill above the stairs was completely covered in dead flies. On several mornings, we also had to pick up dead wasps from the bedroom carpets, upstairs hallway, and kitchen counters. The internet connection was extremely slow and often unusable, and the television in the main living room was difficult to watch due to relying solely on built‑in apps, which constantly buffered. The bed sizes were not as advertised. The listing stated there were two king‑size beds, one double, and one twin room, but in reality, there was only one king‑size bed, two doubles, and one twin room. This caused discomfort for one of the couples who had expected a king‑size bed. We also found that some of the furniture in the smaller living room appeared dirty and had not been cleaned for some time. Overall, these issues meant that our stay was less relaxing than expected, and we left a day earlier than planned.

Its a lovely house and was ideal for our family of six and two dogs. We had a very good holiday and really enjoyed the quietness with the sound of the small beck at the bottom of the garden the only noise we could hear.

“We stayed for a week in August, and had a great time.”

Two adults, two kids and hound. The house is remotely located, about 10mins drive from Kendal. It is situated down a very long private track. So ideal if you want a true getaway! However, the signage is poor. And it takes a leap of faith to follow the drive far enough to find the property. A few signposts would remove that arrival stress. When you do pluck up the courage to follow the track beyond what feels like the end of civilisation, you cross a cattle grid and crest a hill to see Stang in all its glory. A large, white wash farmhouse with ample gardens all around. You'll be surrounded by a herd of dairy cows, who we found to be quite inquisitive and friendly. Once parked on the large gravel driveway, you enter via large porch area. The property and its furnishings are old. But beautifully so. Like any managed rental, you will find cobwebs and little bits which I am sure the owner wouldn't usually have around, but that's not unique to Stang. The property is very large and we never used some of the rooms. The kitchen is the hub of the house, and warm with its arga oven belting out heat 24/7 - very cosy. There are nice touches like fishing rods (but no fish in the river while we were there), and a ping-pong table for guests. There is a pub nearby ish, a little over 1 mile away and the walk back at night is pitch black - so take a torch. A car is essential here. And you have a large Asda between Stang and Kendal, so never far from anything you'd need. The hot water/shower supply is unique... a kinda on/off pulsating affair. And noisy. We put it down to being a happy quirk of the house and it never caused a problem. The TV in the living room has Netflix, but the house has no radio or music system. I felt the kitchen could have done with a little radio, but thats personal preference. Would I recommend - yes. Would I go back - yes. Should you consider it - yes. Happy holidays!

“Beautiful farmhouse in a peaceful location.”

The kitchen has everything you need and we loved the AGA. The house was very clean and had lots of pictures and ornaments. The wi-fi only worked upstairs but that wasn't an issue. The house is surrounded by the owners fields,the gardens were beautiful. A lovely relaxing week away.

The weather was excellent so we enjoyed sitting out on the patio by the river in the beautiful,well kept gardens and the dogs loved the freedom to safely run around.The postion of the house is perfect for walking locally or visiting the Lakes, West Yorkshire and Lancashire.Everything you need for a perfect holiday.
