“This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”

Very well appointed, clean and cosy. The owners are generous with a welcome tray and loo rolls etc. There is a slight chemical smell in the cottage and the owners had left reed diffusers around. I have quite a sensitive sense of smell and don’t like the constant odour from reed diffusers, so I put them away in a cupboard and found that if we kept the cottage well aired, the chemical smell could not build up. Apart from this slight problem, we had a wonderful stay in the area. The ...

Apart from this slight problem, we had a wonderful stay in the area. The listing says ‘riverside garden with furniture’ but there was just a bench. It would be nice if the owners had added a table. Some folding chairs would have been great, so we could spend time sitting by the river.

About the location

NEWBY BRIDGE

Bowness-on-Windermere 8 miles.

The small village of Newby Bridge takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, plus the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and admire the views at nearby Gummer's How.
