“Lovely cottage in a lovely quiet village just off the A66.”

The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was ideal for us (2 families with babies). The owner kept us informed of any last minute info prior to our arrival. Only minor criticisms would be there were no logs or coal for the fire for our arrival despite this being advertised in the welcome pack so we had to go fireless on the first night. Secondly the kitchen knife supply was pretty poor, a new set of knives wouldn’t go a miss. Finally (and this was the email directly from ...

Only minor criticisms would be there were no logs or coal for the fire for our arrival despite this being advertised in the welcome pack so we had to go fireless on the first night. Secondly the kitchen knife supply was pretty poor, a new set of knives wouldn’t go a miss. Finally (and this was the email directly from Sykes), stating we should empty the dishwasher before departure. When on holiday the last thing you want to do is wash pots, we have always finished breakfast put pots in dishwasher and turned on, cleaned down kitchen. We thought this is standard. A minor thing, otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Hi Mr Robinson, Thank you for your lovely comments and feedback! However I take on board your mention of the knives… there were plenty in the kitchen drawer but maybe they’ve been broken or thrown away by mistake. I will certainly replace them asap. There should also have been logs on your arrival, many apologies for this! The previous occupant should replace what they’ve used but sadly that doesn’t always happen. The cleaner should then fill the basket for your use. I’m really sorry about this, I will speak to them. I hope it didn’t spoil your stay and hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

About the location

APPLEBY-IN-WESTMORLAND

Penrith 14 miles.

The historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland lies in a loop of the River Eden and is overlooked by the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with the Lake District Fells showing on the western horizon. Set at the heart of the lush Eden Valley and steeped in history, this is one of the loveliest towns in the north of England and was originally the county town of Westmorland. Appleby is nestled between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, so guests can enjoy the contrasting scenery of these two National Parks, plus numerous walking and cycling opportunities as well as the fantastic leisure centre in the town. Appleby has a wonderful selection of quality independent shops, cafes and delicatessens selling locally produced food and crafts. The picturesque street of Boroughgate, with some interesting old buildings, is at the heart of the town and links the well-preserved Norman Castle with the fine medieval Church of St. Lawrence. Appleby is a major stop on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and still today many of the old steam trains wend their way along this line and over the historic and awe-inspiring Ribblehead viaduct. With the delightful Ullswater and the magnificent Lake District within easy reach, this is an ideal holiday location.

Due to COVID the owner has requsted that you bring your own towels to the property and on leaving the beds are stripped and the sheets, pillow and matress protectors are placed into the plastic boxed provided, thank you.
