“In general, I don't understand why not everyone has given this a five star!”

It is a truly fabulous property and I don't think the photographs in the listing do it justice. The views of Ullswater from the property are amazing! It is right behind a lovely pub/inn that serves great food. It is within 30-40 mins (driving distance) from some lovely places such as Grasmere, Kirkstone Pass, Windermere and Aira Force is just 7-8 mins away. The facilities are top notch. I was initially concerned reading some older reviews of it being a tired property and lots of flies! It wasn't ...

I was initially concerned reading some older reviews of it being a tired property and lots of flies! It wasn't tired at all. We did have a few minor maintenance issues but when we contacted the number provided, a handyman was there within an hour to sort it all out. Didn't see a single fly!! It was great and we will definitely be back again - the kids are asking me to book right now! We all loved it!

About the location

WATERMILLOCK

Pooley Bridge 2.5 miles; Glenridding 6.2 miles; Penrith 8.5 miles.

The elevated scattered village of Watermillock runs parallel to the main road alongside Ullswater Lake and is mainly a farming community. Just 2.5 miles away is Pooley Bridge with its array of amenities which sits on the northern shore of the lake in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley originated due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. Glenridding (meaning glen overgrown with bracken) is a small tourist village with a range of local shops, cafes and restaurants. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Watermillock is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
