What a gorgeous cottage with a very high spec and amazing support from the owners who were incredibly helpful.

If I were to sum up this accommodation it would be 'attention to detail' as everything you could possibly need was provided - including two delicious home made scones, cream and jam on our arrival. Thank you. We will be back! Sue

Bothy is simply special!

The place is unique, comfortable and well equipped. The setting in the North Pennines is stunning! My partner and I stayed at the Bothy for a week and we both wished we could have stayed longer. The place is one part of the experience, the other is the people who run this establishment. I met Mark on my arrival who was warm and welcoming making one feel instantly at home. Fresh eggs and home made scones were such a lovely touch, both delicious! It meant so much after a long drive! Thank you! It is so clear there is a lot of care and heart put into this place by Mark and Jo, one can feel it instantly. Thank you both for an amazing holiday, we will most definitely return! Kasia

We were given recommendations of local nearby sites to see and and received prompt responses whenever we had any questions. Beautiful and cosy cottage with breathtaking views. It's a great place to unwind :) We missed seeing the red squirrels, maybe next time! :D

The Bothy was clean and very cosy.

It had everything we may have needed. Our hosts seemed to have put a lot of thought and effort in to ensuring guests enjoyed their stay. Very nice and friendly place to visit, maybe we will explore the other holiday cottages at Greenends again.

Jo and Mark are lovely, the scones they left for me were delicious. There is everything you need in the Bothy, the bed was very comfortable. Mark had informed me that the mattress was newly put on that morning. The jacuzzi bath is amazing. I had a lovely peaceful stay with my little dog. I would highly recommend staying here to everyone. Lovely place, perfect.

We have just got home from a 3 night day at this beautiful cottage, the owners Mark and Jo are so kind and welcoming, even home made scones and fresh organic eggs were left for us!

The cottage is so cozy with all modern furniture and appliances, the whirlpool jacuzzi bath is unreal, especially if you suffer with Arthritis, the power shower is also amazing, never seen a shower with so may water jets. We loved watching the red squirrels in the garden area, never seen so many species of birds and the wildlife and views was breathtaking. We would definitely recommend and we are looking to return.

We have just stayed at the Bothy, we were met by Mark and Jo who were lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful.

On arrival Jo had made some homemade scones which were yummy with some jam and free range eggs from their chickens. There was everything there you would need for your holiday. It was lovely and clean, comfortable and so relaxing. It was so lovely watching all the birds, rabbits playing in the field and watching the red squirrel in the tree right outside the window. There were some lovely places to visit Carlisle, Hexham, Alston, Penrith were some we went to all with our dog who enjoyed all the walks and the pubs. Me, my husband and our cocker spaniel (Rudy) stayed here recently to celebrate my birthday.

We have had the best time. The hosts are fantastic, really friendly and demonstrate a genuine commitment to ensuring an enjoyable stay. You can see their commitment and hard work throughout. It really is lovely to see the faces behind the magic! A long awaited bucket list of mine has always been to see a red squirrel in person and I'm thrilled to have been able to accomplish this during the trip. We were visited daily (early morning and late afternoon) and enjoyed watching them from our window (along with our other feathered guests). You could easily lose hours watching 'the gang'. Highlights were being greeted by Mark with fresh eggs, seeing the Bothy for the first time (wow), spotting the fresh scones waiting for us on arrival (very tasty) and that fabulous jacuzzi bath. I must also say that I did disclose to Mark how much I wanted to see the red squirrels and when I saw Jo filling up the feeders straight after it did melt my heart how much they wanted it to happen for us. I really appreciated that kindness. There are so many walks readily available within the local area. We clocked the miles in hiking. Our highlights were walking the route low force to high force, South tyneside rail track, Ashgill force and Gelt woods. The only problem we had during the trip was that we had to come home at the end

Me and my wife had a fantastic few days stay at The Bothy.

The owner Mark welcomed us with fresh eggs and homemade scones which was a lovely gesture. The Bothy had everything and was so comfortable and well presented and thoughtfully prepared for our stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the weather was great. You don’t need to go far for the wildlife as it’s right outside your door. We’d love to go back one day. On arrival the welcome from the owners was welcoming.

The property was well equipped and very clean, and warm. The views of the surrounding areas are amazing, and the wildlife is so tranquil. There is lots to see right on the doorstep. Local shop is only a short trip up the lane. I would say, for a couple looking for a peaceful romantic getaway, this cottage has it all. Mark and Jo are fantastic hosts.

This was the perfect place to stay if you are looking for somewhere quiet to escape for a short period.

A great two weeks in The Bothy!

Hosts Jo and Mark were very approachable and friendly without intruding on our time. They gave us plenty of suggestions for walks and visits. The welcome scones and lovely eggs were gratefully received. The Bothy is beautiful with a lovely cosy feel - just right for a couple. There was the added bonus of red squirrels within a few feet of the lounge window and we were entertained by the squirrels and birdlife most days. We enjoyed the holiday so much, we have already booked another week next year! Ruth

Lovely people very helpful very clean every thing you need in a cottage.

From my perspective, the French style bed mattress was not conducive to my sleeping (bad back) for me a more firmer mattress would be more supportive and less noisy when moving. Also perhaps the two seater settee had a similar problem. But all in all a nice cottage, in a beautiful setting but you need good walking legs and mine at 78 are not as good as they were.

Mooie omgeving met tal van mogelijkheden voor wandelaars. Ligt verlaten maar voor ons zeer zeker geen probleem. Met de auto kun je overal heen wanneer je dat wil. Zeer aan te bevelen.

The Bothy was exactly as described but what made the holiday so great was the helpfulness and availability of the owners and their patience at showing me how to use the 'electricals'.

The area was lovely and great for safe dog walking , very peaceful and I would love to visit again

The cottage was perfect.

We wanted to be away from it all, and The Bothy is certainly that. But we loved the walking, and then coming home to a cozy cottage was always a pleasure. The mattress is a bit soft for our liking, but we understand that if it were firmer you'd be getting reviews from others saying "the mattress was a bit firm for our liking."

This was a lovely property, clean, comfortable and well equipped.

The welcome pack was great as were the small items like dish washer tablets, shower gel etc. The owners were very welcoming but not intrusive. It is a beautiful area and the property was very sympathetic to the are.

Really lovely stay!

Comfortable, clean and well equipped. Great for wildlife, watched a red squirrel through the window on the bird feeders nearly every day just outside the Bothy. Lots of different birds visiting. Tawny owls in the area too. The walks around the Bothy are stunning, we left the car most days & went walking. The owners are really helpful with information about the area, and they are on site if needed but unobtrusive. The Bothy is great for a romantic break away or just to unwind and relax. The jacuzzi bath is a must after a long walk! And the scones & fresh eggs are the icing on the cake. We will return!

We had a very enjoyable stay at The Bothy, which was warm and cosy with stunning surroundings and views.

The cottage is beautifully presented, clean and well equipped. The bed is very comfortable and we slept well. For a week it felt like 'home'. The owners Jo and Mark gave us a friendly, warm welcome. They are clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the area. They gave us information on places to visit, eat and walking routes. We're hooked and bought our own map of the area! We enjoyed being so close to nature. The owners left us to enjoy our time in their beautiful cottage but were also on hand if needed. We stayed for a week, it wasn't long enough! The people in this part of the country are very friendly, which we appreciate. We hope to return again to this fab cottage to continue experiencing the beautiful scenery, the area and making memories.

Thank you to Mark & Jo, we needed to recharge our batteries and this stay did just that.

Absolutely loved the cottage.

Gorgeous views and the warmest of welcome. Lots to do in the area and then back to the cottage to watch the birds flying backwards and forward to the feeders was the best way to unwind. Loads of information given by the owners and views to die for. Will definitely be back.

We have had a lovely few days at Bothy.

Mark and jo were lovely hosts, with little touches such as fresh jam and scones and a warm personal welcome making a world of difference. The cottage is lively and comfortable and the spaces for the dog were amazing, she absolutely loved it. Definitely somewhere I would recommend and we hope to stay again soon.

The Bothy is an absolute gem, a comfortable place to come back to after a day out walking in the hills, a fabulous location and made to feel very welcome by Mark and Jo.

The eggs and scones were all appreciated, and it was lovely to enjoy breakfast hoping the red squirrel would visit the bird feeder (other than one day it was there everyday!). No matter the mixed weather, and other than one day's short trip into Alston,the car stayed parked, as the walks out were fantastic and in fact a reason I am already looking forward to coming back as there are still more to enjoy. For me a magical part of the stay was to be in the hills seeing and hearing the curlews, seeing curlew chicks on the ground, and providing memories of long ago holidays, lovely to see them again. The Bothy gave me the relaxing yet fun filled break I was hoping for, in a part of England I had not appreciated is truly magical, and somewhere I was made to feel truly welcome. Once again, thanks Mark and Jo and hope to be back again very soon!

Lovely cottage, in a great location.

Owners really hospitable with nice touches, such as fresh eggs and scones and jam (which were delicious). Was sad to leave.

My husband and I had a much needed break at the end of April.

The Bothy was cosy and quirky. Mark and Jo made us so welcome. The cottage is well thought out with stylish fixtures and fittings. The little touches of eggs, homemade scones and jam on arrival were delicious. It was delightful to listen to the birdsong, see the birds feeding in the garden and a red squirrel made his visits too! The surrounding countryside is stunning. Whether you enjoy walking or just want to relax and recharge your batteries, I would thoroughly recommend booking here. PS I say this after taking self catering holidays in the North of England and Scotland for over 30 years.

Lovely cottage in a wonderful location - a perfect ‘get away’ in beautiful countryside.

Stayed at The Bothy as a women and her dog, wanting an escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Wow! Did this place deliver in spades. The cottage is amazing. Quirky. Packed with character. Very well equipped and immaculately clean. Mark and Jo are super hosts. Genuinely one of the nicest couples I’ve met. Whilst they live on site, I never saw them (except arrival and departure) but it was great to know they were there if needed. The scone and fresh eggs on arrival were very welcome too - thank you! Now location…. This cottage is on a hillside in heaven! The views from The Bothy are incredible but there are also so many walks straight from the door and a variety too! Whether you want 1 mile to 50 mile, riverside or moorland, the one thing you can be sure of, is the area has it all. I parked the car up on arrival and it didn’t move again til I left. I walked a total of over 45 miles during the week and never did the same walk twice! Not only that but I reckon I didn’t see more than a dozen people throughout the entire weeks walks!!! Having said that this has to be one of the friendliest places I’ve ever been. Every single person I met was absolutely lovely Nenthead (under a mile away) has a local shop and fabulous cafe (the Hive) and the mine is a great visit. Hopefully the local pub will reopen soon. Alston (3.8 miles) has a variety of shops with a couple of pubs/restaurants. Issac Tea Trail literally runs from The Bothy but honestly this whole area is a walkers paradise. For anyone who’s thinking of booking…. Do it! You won’t be disappointed!!! I can’t wait to return for New Year and this time I’m taking dog and hubby!

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage even though the weather was challenging.

The cottage was comfortable and well supplied to keep you occupied if unable to get out. Mark and Jo were helpful and approachable. We would certainly pass on our recommendations.

The Bothy was an ideal setting for a peaceful, relaxing, stay, in the run up to Christmas.

Jo and Mark are friendly owners and made sure that the cottage was set up with everything needed. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen with all appliances; a lounge with TV and small fire on the ground floor; a large double bedroom with plenty of storage space for clothes and belongings; and a bathroom with separate shower, jacuzzi bath and two wash hand basins. Felt warm and cozy throughout. Would be happy to recommend as a base to explore the local area. Very suitable for guests with a dog.

Slept like a log every night. There is so much lovely walking in the local and surrounding areas which is why we chose to stay here. The owners were in contact and very helpful. Would stay here again if back in the area.

Fortunately the weather was kind to us, had the weather been more wintry we felt the bathroom would have benefited from the radiators being on longer otherwise pretty damn good . Local pubs, well good food excellent Beer and Cider, not to mention Wine, what more can one desire, oh yes amazing scenery, OMG the moors are spectacular. We had a really good holiday.

You can do loads of walks straight from the door. The cottage is clean. The beds/ sofa very comfortable. Kitchen is well equipped. Nice to arrive to fresh scones and eggs. We took all our food with us which turned out to be a good idea as there's only a small CoOp in Alston.

We had a wonderful welcome from Jo and Mark on arrival such a very helpful lovely couple The cottage is exactly what we were expecting so quaint and has all the mod cons, The outside space was great for the dog and beautiful walks.

Its location is very central to travel to the Lakes etc. Would definitely book again in the future, well worth booking. The scones and jam were a very nice gesture and thoroughly enjoyed by us both. Thank you Mark and Jo for your welcome.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at The Bothy and enjoyed every minute.

Thank you Jo and Mark for the warm welcome and also for the fresh eggs and home made scones which was so thoughtful. The Bothy is delightful – lovely and warm and equipped with everything you could possibly need, together with fantastic views and lovely walks right on your doorstep. Excellent WiFi enabled me to work. The enclosed courtyard was great for my elderly greyhound to potter around in and enjoy lots of sniffs. Hope to stay again soon.

Very enjoyable stay at the Bothy.

Our host greeted us on arrival with lovely jam and scones. The accommodation has everything you need for a self catering stay and is furnished to a high standard. A great place to be to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The fields adjoining the property are also a big plus, safe and enclosed to let your dog run wild chasing rabbits. The property is off the beaten track but my wife and I would consider a return visit in the summer months.

Loved the Bothy and the area around it in spite of the inclement weather.

The Bothy is a first-class accommodation.

Everything you want is there for you to relax and enjoy your stay. The surrounding area is amongst the most scenic in the UK with views over the moorlands of the Northern Pennines. With a short drive to Hadrian's Wall as well as the massive amount of signed footpaths, it has to be counted as a top-class location. As the property does have stairs, I would consider it not to be practical for people with mobility issues.

Lovely quiet location.

Property had great facilities but would be much better if the heating controls were in the cottage rather than managed from the owner’s property. The owners are new but they were so helpful in every respect, we hope they make a great success from the ownership of the property.

The Bothy was well equipped with everything you needed in the Kitchen infact it would have had more equipment than a Hotel no issues at all The bathroom also Big double power shower and a jacuzzi bath large bathroom no issues here the rest just falls into normal bedroom lounge television area all in very good order no issues the dog found the stairs abit steep but was quite happy to be carried All in all a good few days break from the normal
