Frances “Wonderful bungalow in a good position.”
However in October we needed the heating on to warm the place especially early morning. We couldn't find anything to make the radiators heat up. They only switched on, on our final day. - Frances, October 2025We are sorry your stay at Lilac cottage was not as enjoyable as we would have hoped. We would like to provide clarification regarding the heating issue you highlighted. As detailed in the welcome folder, guests can adjust the central heating by the controller located in the hallway. Comments regarding the carpet has been noted and will be addressed. I hope these issues do not deter you from returning in the future. Property Owner

Eileen “Always fabulous”
- Eileen, September 2025Kay “Superb property.”
Lovely enclosed garden for the pooch Close to all amenities. Easy bus down to Windermere
- Kay, August 2025Andrew “Fabulous property in the heart of Windermere, but once inside or chilling in the garden you wouldn't know it.”
Its an oasis of calm but with easy access to all the facilities of a town centre. House was clean and tidy, generous parking and enclosed garden really beneficial. Will definitely be back. Thanks
- Andrew, August 2025Maria “This was my 4th stay at Lilac Cottage.”
The cottage is so lovely, very comfortable and clean. I did a 2 week stay last year and would have preferred a washing machine instead of diswasher but for a week's stay it's no big hardship. The garden is beautiful, a proper suntrap, and very secure for dogs. I would definitely recommend and I'll be back again next year. On a side note, is there any way of having a recycling wheelie bin? I usually end up bringing my recycling home with me.
- Maria, July 2025Thank you for your lovely review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your recent stay at Lilac Cottage. We would like to clarify the recycling issue that you highlighted. The mixed recycling bin that is provided allows you to put all refuse in it. The recyclables are separated from the non-recyclables, following collection. I hope this helps with any future stays at this cottage. Property Owner
Jenny “We have stayed at Lilac Cottage on a number of occasions.”
Very disappointed that for a two week stay we had to request a change of bed linen and towels and that this was left on the doorstep after 5pm! Also no extra toilet rolls or dishwasher tablets for the second week.
- Jenny, May 2025Thank you for leaving your feedback following your stay at Lilac Cottage. We would like to take the opportunity to apologise again for the situation with the linen. We have taken your comments regarding the linen, and the toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets on board, and these will also be passed on to the Housekeeping Team. Thank you- and we hope to welcome you to The Lakes again. The Lakelovers Owner Relations Team. Property Owner
Colin “An absolutely fantastic place to stay!”
Very clean and great decor and very well situated. Great for the dog with secure garden and very peaceful, and we could easily walk into windermere for pubs and restaurants or walk down to Bowness. We would recommend this cottage........Thank you
- Colin, June 2024Eileen “Our 3rd time there very clean ,well equipped very comfortable nice quiet position but close to the town”
- Eileen, June 2024Maria “Cottage was lovely, very clean and comfortable and literally around the corner from Windermere centre with the added bonus of off-road parking.”
Could do with a washing machine rather than a dishwasher but that is only negative. The back garden is fab and enclosed which is a must with a dog. It has a lovely patio area which we unfortunately didn't get to try as we had more rain than sun lol. However we loved it so much we have booked up again for September. Hopefully we'll have better weather lol
- Maria, May 2024Jane “We absolutely LOVE Lilac Cottage.”
It is so comfortable. We feel very at home there. A big thank you to the cleaning team because whenever we visit it is spotless and is so much appreciated. As others have said, a washing machine would help a lot as trips out in the Lakes are always muddy!
- Jane, March 2024Lisa “We had a lovely Christmas at Lilac Cottage, location was perfect and the property is beautiful with the best enclosed garden for the dogs we’ve ever had in a holiday cottage.”
There were just a couple of little points which stopped this being 5 star, there were 3-4 light bulbs out, it didn’t bother us as we don’t like it too bright but looks a little untidy and in the kitchen could do with a carving knife and a new potato peeler, probably not something you’d normally notice but we cooked a Christmas dinner. Overall an amazing stay and we will be back thank you
- Lisa, December 2023Jean “Such a lovely cottage in a excellent location.”
Everything you needed it was like home from home. Very clean and comfortable, will definitely go again
- Jean, September 2023Helen “A couple of little niggles, nothing major.”
A light switch on one side of the double bed didn't work but not a big deal, the drain was blocked when we got there which we were told about but it meant one of the bathrooms had an awful smell and they couldn't fix it until 8:30pm at night but these were all small issues and wouldn't put me off coming back again as the cottage was generally fantastic!
- Helen, August 2023Jane “Lilac Cottage is absolutely fantastic.”
It's so comfortable, nicely decorated and always impeccably clean. We love coming here. A washing machine would really help because being on walks and swimming in the lakes does generate a lot of dirty clothing. Will definitely be returning! Thank you!
- Jane, August 2023Emma “Lovely property in a quiet location with an excellent enclosed garden, perfect for our dog.”
Easy to walk to restaurants and trips on the lake and a good base for both local and more distant walks.
- Emma, July 2023Kenneth “Returning guests.”
Lilac Cottage suits our needs. It is clean, modern and in a great location. It is also dog friendly. Was happy to see that the garden furniture had been updated this year showing that the owners keep on top of all maintenance and general wear and tear. As regulars to the Lakes this is probably the best Cottage that we have stayed in. We will be back.
- Kenneth, July 2023Michael “First class house and home, loved everything about it,sorry about the clock which has been returned to you.”
- Michael, June 2023Eileen “Fabulous stay again.”
Lovely and clean , comfortable and well maintained all you need for a lovely stay A note for owners: I am disappointed to see no available dates for 2024 shown
- Eileen, May 2023Glynn “Our 3rd time here at Lilac Cottage and I’m sure we’ll be back.”
Not much more to say after my previous 2 reviews other than a perfect cottage in a perfect location.
- Glynn, May 2023Jenny “Our first stay at Lilac Cottage but it won't be our last.”
We absolutely loved the location - so quiet. We couldn't quite believe how close to the centre of Windermere we were. Also appreciated the secure garden for our two dogs. The patio is a little sun trap and it was lovely sitting out there after a day out walking and exploring. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage.
- Jenny, April 2023Jane “Lilac Cottage is a perfect gem!”
The location is wonderful - very quiet but close to all the amenities in Windermere. The garden is enclosed which is perfect for pooches. The cottage itself is so comfortable, clean and well-equipped. We have visited twice and will definitely be back. The only thing which would be really useful is a washing machine.
- Jane, April 2023Nancy “Well presented cottage in good location good enclosed garden for one dog.”
Just a couple of small niggles ; - no welcome pack - no games or books for rainy days -strange to have one bedroom locked -not recycling when neighbours do [ brought ours home]
- Nancy, March 2023Glynn “Our 2nd stay in Lilac Cottage and hopefully not our last.”
Everything you need in a brilliant location for local amenities. Great food in The Elleray just around the corner with numerous other bars/cafes within a short walk. The dogs loved it too.
- Glynn, September 2022Paul “The property was well equipped, with all that you required for a holiday break.”
It was well positioned central to the town, which was nice as it minimised use of car. The garden was secure for the dog and also secluded and pleasant to sit out in.
- Paul, September 2022Louise “Beautiful property , so close to all of the amenities of Windermere and bowness, but still had the quiet feel of being in the lakes, cottage was well equipped, a washing machine would have made it perfect and one whole room seems to be locked off?”
Garden was great , we’ll definitely be returning
- Louise, August 2022Carly “Lilac cottage is a beautiful home from home.”
It is well equipped and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, although a washing machine would definitely have been useful. Our two boys absolutely loved it and didn’t want to come home. The location is great and is a few minutes walk from Windermere, where there is a Sainsburys local and a selection of restaurants and cafes, and about a 1.5 mile walk from Bowness. We would definitely stay here again.
- Carly, August 2022Sharon “Lovely clean and comfortable cottage.”
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Couldn't fault the location to town even though down a lovely quiet lane. Garden perfect for relaxing in after exploring the area. A washing machine and a welcome pack would be the icing on the cake.
- Sharon, July 2022Tony “Although We enjoyed our stay at this cottage I can only compare our experience & expectations to previous holiday cottages.”
Adding the following to the cottage will help others: Washing machine Dryer Hair dryer Broader Kitchen utensil & equipment selection Variety of sizes in cups & drinking glasses Additional breakfast trays
- Tony, July 2022Eileen “Great location lovely comfortable cottage”
- Eileen, July 2022Helen “Perfect size for 4 people .”
Lilac cottage is clean comfortable and well equipped. We were delighted with the location down a small lane with access to the shops /countryside. We would highly recommend Lilac Cottage.
- Helen, June 2022Glynn “Lovely cottage ideally situated in a quiet lane in Windermere and less than a 5 minute walk to all local amenities.”
Nice enclosed back garden for our dogs with adequate space inside for 4 adults. We were joined by our son and daughter for the Easter weekend and for an extra £20 they accommodated an extra dog. 20/30 minute walk into the more livelier Bowness, overall a great location to explore the lakes either by car or on foot. Will definetly be booking again for later in the year.
- Glynn, April 2022Marion “Really lovely beautifully presented and well located cosy cottage - we were ...”
Really lovely beautifully presented and well located cosy cottage - we were there during the storms and the rain did come in through the back door and it rattled in the wind - not sure it fits as well as it might - but the weather was extreme
- Marion, February 2022Kay “We enjoyed a lovely warm and welcoming holiday at Lilac cottage which was very well furnished and decorated making a very comfortable stay within the national park.”
We found the central position very helpful as it allowed us the opportunity to walk out and be in the centre of Windermere within a couple of minutes. The choice of restaurants locally is very good and all other amenities are easily at hand. The accommodation was very well equipped and in excellent condition. Sadly we have learnt that for some reason, although there are 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6, the property will only be available for 4 people in the future… we would have immediately booked to come back with extended family! We had a problem with unlocking the back door but we are sure this will be rectified for future guests. Thank you for a great stay in our favourite part of the world.
- Kay, October 2021Beverly “Beautiful cottage, perfect location, we had a very enjoyable week in the lakes.”
Would definitely recommend and would like to visit again.
- Beverly, October 2021Joe “Great location in a lovely quiet lane close to centre of town.”
Nice garden and lovely appointed bungalow, well equipped and very clean, great with the dog. Would have liked a washing machine as weather wasn’t marvellous but understand with there being limited space.
- Joe, September 2021Craig “When we arrived we were more than pleased with the accommodation we found it to be very clean and tidy and more than met our expectations.”
As we know this is a new addition to your portfolio we can only hope these standards remain high as we are aware the owners welcome pets and in some cases we have experienced that over time in other holiday lets standards have been allowed to slip which is sad. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage and found the location perfect both central and peaceful. The only thing which could have been an improvement to the cottage would have been the addition of a washer/dryer which was a bit of a miss after long walks for wet clothes. But we would definitely stay there again if we ever got the chance to return,
