    We didn’t use the car at all. Very well appointed with good quality appliances and comfy furniture and bed. Every imaginable information book, map and guide you’ll ever need to explore the Lakes. Centrally positioned in Windermere so access to shops, bars, cafes and the bus and train stations are all within a 5 minute walk. Then about 20 minutes to walk down to Bowness. Did not want to come home.

Located in a quiet area just off the main street in Windermere, Thyme Cottage is sure to appeal to those looking for a quiet central base from which to explore the delights of this beautiful village with shops, bars, restaurants and train and bus links within walking distance. Windermere is one of the most popular villages to visit in the Lake District, hosting an array of shops, pavement cafes, pubs, bars, restaurants and walks galore, offering something to offer for all tastes.

The village has excellent travel links with the bus and train station only a five minute walk from the apartment meaning you can leave your car at home while you travel further afield to some of the most scenic walks in the country.

Bowness bay is close by where you can enjoy a vibrant village atmosphere with a host of visitor attractions including, The Famous World of Beatrix Potter, lake cruises which sail the length of Windermere, relax aboard whilst you admire the magnificent views along the way or stop off at the neighbouring villages of Ambleside and Brockhole.

Whatever your choice, wonderful memories will be created. This charming, modern, well equipped, ground floor apartment is set back in a lovely quiet area with the advantage of private parking and an open garden to the front, perfect for relaxing after a long day on the fells.

The vibrant twin towns of Bowness and Windermere hold enduring appeal for visitors to the Lake District National Park, with each providing a range of nearby attractions, amenities, cinema, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. A variety of boat trips and boat hire are available from Windermere Lake Cruises in Bowness to Brockhole, Ambleside and Lakeside (at the southern end of the lake where the Lakeside Aquarium and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway are situated). The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and the Old Laundry Theatre are 1.5 miles away. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is a 30-minute walk to enjoy the spectacular panorama of far-reaching views over the lake and surrounding fells. Brockhole, which offers high wire tree top experiences, is three miles away, and the historic villages of Grasmere, Ambleside and Troutbeck are a short drive away. There is also a variety of watersports on offer for the more energetic at marine centres along the lake. The area is ideally situated for exploring all that this region has to offer, whether by foot, bike, car, railway or bus; and is within easy reach of attractions such as the spectacular Langdales, Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top House at Far Sawrey, Coniston, Grizedale Forest Park, with its delightful walks and famous outdoor sculptures, mountain biking and 'Go-Ape' adventure park, Ullswater, Kendal, Keswick, stone circles, Roman forts and England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike.
