The property

The northern tip of Bassenthwaite, just ten minutes' drive from Keswick is a haven of peace and quiet and this lovely location is shared by Barn Cottage, the Bassenthwaite Ospreys and the Lakes Distillery. As the name suggests Barn Cottage is a lovingly restored cottage that once formed part of The Ruddings farm.

Barn Cottage has recently been refurbished by its owners to create a characterful cottage that offers the ideal Lakeland retreat.

Retaining much of the original character and given a contemporary twist the owner's attention to detail is evident throughout. The cottage is presented with open plan living accommodation and includes a welcoming log burning stove.

The master bedroom has been created on the mezzanine above the living area and second bedroom and shower room are on located on the ground floor. With a great choice of walks from the door, easy access to the high fells that dominate the northern Lakes, a great choice of local pubs and places to eat in the area and the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth both within fifteen minutes' drive there is plenty to see and do and an array of beautiful scenery waiting to be explored!

And did we mention that the award-wining Lake Distillery?

It's just two minutes' walk from the cottage - so why not pop along and sample some of the amazing range of spirits on offer and dine in the popular bistro! Accommodation in detail The front door opens directly to the open plan living accommodation.

Welcoming sofa and armchairs are arranged around the cosy log burning stove and TV.

The handmade oak kitchen is at the rear of the cottage and incorporates granite worktop and quality appliances including fridge/ice box, electric induction hob, oven, second oven/microwave and dishwasher.

To the side the family dining table is the ideal spot to relax over a romantic dinner for two or a social evening with friends. There are two bedrooms to choose from.

The master double bedroom is located on the first floor mezzanine where the original 16th Century beams are exposed and the old and new mix in harmony.

Back downstairs on the ground floor there is a pretty twin bedroom and both bedrooms are complemented by a family shower room with walk in power shower. There is a washer/dryer within the airing cupboard in the shower room.

A separate WC with basin is also on the ground floor.

To the rear of the cottage there is a small enclosed garden with table and seating – ideal on a summer afternoon.

To the front of the cottage there are views across the valley to Skiddaw that dominates the skyline.

Private parking is for two cars.Location Set in the beautiful and peaceful north lakes this pretty part of the Lake District has a traditional feel with miles of drystone walls and farmland.

Nearby you will find Lakes such as Bassenthwaite and Overwater and the striking Northern Fells of Skiddaw and Blencathra.

The area benefits from being quieter and less commercialised than some of the other Lakeland towns and villages yet is only a short drive to the popular market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth. About the location

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
