“This property was a real gem.”

It was really well equipped and spacious,with a lovely bathroom and comfy bed.It was in a beautiful rural location with walks from the door. The nearest pub, the Crown, was lovely and the staff were very friendly-the food was gorgeous. I would definitely stay here again.

“This was our second visit to Nuthatch.”

A lovely clean cottage and lovely hosts. They are at the farm if needed but respected our privacy. Everything we needed was available. The area is wonderful with easy access to the Lakes and mountains, Solway coast and Eden Valley. We will be back!

“Loved our stay at Nuthatch which is on a farm in lovely surroundings with far reaching views.”

The cottage was lovely & warm, very clean & cosy with a lovely little patio garden surrounded by lovely shrubs, colourful acers & clematis. Very comfortable bed & bathroom with bath & shower & really hot water. We didn’t need to contact the owners but knew they were close by if needed. A thoughtful welcome pack on arrival. Well situated for visiting the lakes & Northumberland. We’ll certainly rebook if we’re ever visiting this area again in the future.

Great value cottage in a great location for travelling about. Small compact garden. Warm and cosy. Lovely bath and hot water. Ideally suited to shorter stays. Plenty of parking outside the door. Very peaceful at night. Will definitely be back again. If you prefer a bigger property the owners have a lovely cottage next door called woodpecker.

“This is a lovely little property set on a working farm, very peaceful and out of the way.”

We had very little disturbance. The property has everything you need for just one or two of you plus pooch! The under floor heating is lovely, especially for the winter. It’s a great location and only a short drive to the A66… would definitely stay again!

“We had a lovely stay at the Nuthatch.”

Peaceful and tranquil. The rooms were warm and cozy, and we especially loved the underfloor heating. The kitchen was well equipped. The pots and pans we used were all nice and clean. Great to see that there was also cooking oil, salt and pepper, and a compact dish drainer. Great bath with an easy to use shower. Lovely, big chest of drawers for clothes etc in the bedroom & also extra pillows and blankets. The Nuthatch, while being situated on a beautiful farm, also proved to be a great base for exploring. Aira Force, Gowbarrow Fell, Penrith, Lowther Castle- we managed to pack quite a few places in such a short time. Overall, we had a wonderful experience

“Cottage clean ,cosy and peaceful location .”

Generous welcome pack provided .Owners lived near & left instructions to contact them if anything extra required or any problems.I didn’t need to as everything was perfect but nice to have that offer.My only criticism would be that there isn’t much room to move in the bathroom .I am small but taller ,bigger folk would struggle with accessing sink .

“Had a lovely bank holiday weekend here.”

The cottage is very well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Its cosy whilst still being spacious. Plenty of places within an easy drive for walks and meals out and all the facilities you want meals in too. Lovely big bath (for soaking after the long walks). The only slight negative we can think of is the mattress is extremely firm, maybe a topper would help. That said we slept well and would recommend and love go back.

“Lovely cottage on a working dairy farm.”

Very peaceful and we took our little dog which was not a problem as loads of walks just outside of cottage he loved it . Very friendly host he made time to chat to us even though he was busy. We will book again as very close to lakes and west Cumbria and we would like to see the cows being milked. Wished we booked for full week.

“Wonderful location and property.”

Perfect place to get some peace and quiet away from the normal stresses of life! Really thoughtful welcoming touches - tea, coffee, wine, biscuits, milk etc. Though we did not see the owners we knew that they were nearby if we needed them. The accommodation was very cosy, the reclining chair was extra comfy and the shower was perfect! No complaints at all would happily recommend to friends and family.

“I absolutely loved my short stay at Nuthatch - thank you for providing such a lovely clean and comfortable place for my little dog and I to stay while I was working in nearby Carlisle.”

I was a fairly invisible guest due to work, but while I didn't get to see the hosts, they had clearly taken great care in making Nuthatch the perfect little place to stay. So peaceful, super clean, had everything I could have needed, and a million times better than being confined to a bedroom in a Carlisle hotel. I'm sure we'll be back next time I'm asked to work in the area, and hopefully I'll get to see more of the farm next time. Thank you again :)

“Clean, comfortable and well equipped - we had everything what we needed.”

The place is very peaceful, but still we've managed to explore Lake District and visit the most interesting places like Honister Slate Mine, Keswick, Windermere, St Bees and Carlisle. It's a working farm, but we couldn't really hear any noise. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The bed is comfy and having a hot bath after long walks is a bonus

Good Location to explore the lake district and north pennines. Very clean and very homely little place it has everything anybody would need although we like our own space and not to be bothered it would have been nice to have a conversation with the owner as we did have a few questions but we didn't see them at all. I would definitely recommend this place as a romantic get away with 2 big dogs.

Compact but with everything we needed. On a farm but didn’t hear any noise at all and the farmer let us watch the cows being milked and explained everything that was going on - lovely guy. Some really nice places to eat locally. Nice walks. Location good.

The views and location are perfect. The added bonus was the walks from the doorstep and being able to let the dogs have a good run in the fields which they really enjoyed! We enjoyed the enclosed garden listening to beautiful birdsong and managed to sit outside with the sun shining on several occasions! Thank you so much.

“As you walk through the garden gate you feel the relaxed atmosphere that the garden and cottage has to offer.”

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. Enough room for 2 adults and our two dogs. The welcome pack was a very thoughtful gesture and very pleasing. Plenty of birds singing while you sit, drinking in the garden. Visited by a hedgehog and watching the deers run around the field is delightful too. We will be looking to book again soon.

“Meg, the dog, and I had a lovely peaceful couple of days at High Head Castle Farm.”

Nuthatch cottage is super with a small enclosed garden so Meg couldn't wander off and had lots of visiting birds. The facilities are great; comfy bed, large bathroom, plenty of hanging space, kitchen with everything you would need (even a separate freezer and a dish washer!) and a nice touch of a welcome gift of goodies which included a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge :-). We could have happily stayed longer if we'd had the time.

“A great place to unwind - the cottage is cosy and snug with everything you need.”

We never used the log burner as the underfloor heating was more than enough to keep the place warm. The enclosed garden is small and charming and our dog loved sitting outside while we supervised him. A great hidden bolt hole to destress and relax.

“The cottage was superb so clean so warm and comfortable , Mrs Stamper who is a lovely friendly lady had thought of everything and i mean everything, even a welcome pack of goodies and a lovely bottle of wine greeted us .”

Our 2 girls (dogs) loved it aswell . We loved the peace and quiet we slept so well in the comfortable bed , such a relaxing break for us even lovely walks. We definitely want to go back ASAP .

“Everything you would need from a week away from he was provided.”

Nice to have access to Hoover/cleaning products so as to not leave dog hair to build up over the week. With it being a dog friendly cottage it was also fantastic having the small enclosed garden area too. The shower was great having really good water pressure. The log burner with a supply of logs, kindling and firelighters was brilliant also, even though the cottage is plenty hot enough without it. They literally have thought about everything.

“This is a hidden gem, if you are fancying a getaway from hustle and bustle of city life and looking for a peaceful and cosy holiday this is the perfect spot .”

Located on the farm, which gives you a chance to see the milking of the cows. If you have a dog there are some very nice walks, the cottage is really cosy has a small patio and place to sit and you can let your dog free in that area. Under floor heating and fireplace makes it more cosy and warm. The owners are really nice , proactive and hospitable. They even arranged laundry for us. They left cookies ,bottle of wine and fruits in the cottage before we arrived. The cottage has supply of warm water all the time. Clean n big bath, dishwasher is available too . Its not far from penrith town center or carlisle town center , its in the perfect spot. If you love animals it will be an amazing experience to interact with them that close.

“The working farm is set in beautiful rolling pastures.”

The accommodation was clean and comfortable for ourselves and our two dogs, with enclosed garden for the dogs to run around safely. The farm family were happy for us to roam with our two dogs (while naturally observing the country code and ensuring our dogs were under control at all times). The farm is ideally placed to explore the lakes, Carlisle, Dumfries and the coast. There are good local dog friendly pubs in Dalston, Calthwaite and further afield Newton Arlosh. Recommended.

The owners had left a lovely welcome pack. They were also very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views and lovely walks on the farm. It is surprising quiet to say they have 160 dairy cows. You can watch the cows being milked. They also have goats. The cottages have a playground for children. Theses cottages suit both couples and families. There is something for everyone. I would highly recommend

Arriving to a bottle of wine, fresh fruit, chocolate cookies and milk was a fantastic touch after a 2 hour drive! The cottage was beautifully clean, warm and homely throughout our stay. And the owner(s) couldn’t do enough for us throughout, despite following COVID-19 measures. It was a brilliant experience to stay on a working dairy farm and such welcoming, pleasant farmers. It is a great base to drive to many fells, lakes and dog walks and there are 3 lovely walks around the farm. There are dog walks from the farm however we didn’t experience these due to the wet weather. After long, wet day’s walking our dogs it was great to dry off in front of a log burner, with heated floor and enjoying a ginormous bath! There are plenty of pubs nearby if you don’t mind driving but being tucked away in a little cottage, with a self-sufficient kitchen was all we needed. I will be recommending to me family and friends and will certainly come back soon! Such great value for money.

“This is one of the most peaceful farms I have ever visited, despite 150 cows being milked twice a day.”

We were not disturbed by any of the activities taking place on the farm. The location is ideal for visiting the Lake District, Pennines, Northumberland and even southern Scotland. Very reasonably priced and considerably cheaper than accommodation available in the Lake District which is only a 40 minute drive away. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, with everything that you need for either a weekend or longer stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately book it again.

The welcome pack of milk , wine , fruit etc was a nice touch. And there was plenty of cleaning products / wipes / sanitizer etc -the cottage was clean and fresh on arrival - The area was very nice for walking our dogs. The cows were very friendly ! The only one thing if we had to make a suggestion would be please change the pillows on the bed as they were quite uncomfortable.. the mattress very soft however this is an individual preference and not a deal breaker! We would visit the area again as we love to visit the lakes and Surrounding areas frequently. The enclosed garden is great for the dogs and the views nice.

Ideal for people wanting to relax, and walk dogs. The only one thing we would mention is that there is not much room to cook if you enjoy it. Because it was cold and wet we took enough shopping to last the week, but only one smallish, low cupboard to store it. Apart from that, the cottage is well furnished, very warm, lovely bathroom. Nice welcome pack including wine, milk, fruit and biscuits. Thank you.

There is a lovely walk down into a secluded valley which has some modern sculptures in it. This is right outside the door. Although this is a working dairy farm it in no way intrudes on the holiday experience. We would highly recommend it as a base for exploring the lakes.

wifi was very very limited. The owners did state on a welcome sheet that it was down to an issue with BT due to being too far from the exchange. Although the cottage was only for 2 people the fridge provide could have been bigger as you couldn't store much food and you ad to go to the shop more often. Where the cottage was situated, which was on a farm there was a lot of flies. There was fly spray provided but that wasn't enough to get rid of them. Maybe a fly zapper could be fitted? The cottage itself was situated in most quiet of places and so peaceful. I would consider going back as this was the main reason for picking it.

The welcome pack was really appreciated as was the Christmas tree. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept well, the bathroom was really clean and the shower was really efficient. The heating worked so well we were too hot and had to turn it off. We had our two dogs with us and appreciated the fenced garden, and they loved the walks around the cottage. All in all a fantastic break.

A lovely, semi-detached, ground floor cottage, one of a group of two cottages in the grounds of High Head Castle Farm, on the owner's dairy farm, 10 miles from Penrith in the Ive Valley.

This Lake District cottage has been lovingly converted and individually styled to provide quality, romantic accommodation in a lovely location, amongst the beautiful, rolling Cumbrian countryside.

Boasting lovely features throughout, this Lake District cottage offers a woodburning stove, spacious bedroom with king-size bed, and beautiful gardens from which to enjoy the views across the valley.
