“Lovely property set in a beautiful surround.”

The property itself was clean and comfortable, although the sofa was a little worn and could do with a deep clean as there were marks and stains on a couple of the cushions. The shower was lovely and the bedroom had plenty of space and the bedding was of high quality. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need. The property itself was clean and comfortable, although the sofa was a little worn and could do with a deep clean as there were marks and stains on a couple of the cushions. The shower was lovely and the bedroom had plenty of space and the bedding was of high quality. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you would need. The owners were very friendly as was Joanne in the cafe. The only things that let the week down a little was a power cut on one of the days, probably due to the storms, George the owner was straight on to it as it affected the whole site, however not a major issue as lots of places to go for lunch. There was a private event at the gardens on one of the days too, perhaps an advance warning to guests would be good as we had planned a quiet day onsite, but the cafe was closed to cater for the event which meant we ended up changing our plans. That said we ate in the cafe twice and the food and drinks were lovely and to a very good standard. It would be good to come back in a year or two and see the changes to the hall and gardens. The accomodation was great value for the price and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful week in a good location for visiting local attractions.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review. We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay, found the cottage comfortable and well equipped, and that you enjoyed the food in the café. We’ll be sure to pass your kind comments on to Joanne. Thank you also for mentioning the sofa cushions. We weren’t aware of the marks, so we’ll absolutely look into that. We’re sorry for the disruption caused by the power cut. Unfortunately, this was due to an issue with an external electricity transformer affecting the wider area, so it was completely outside of our control. George did everything he could to get everything back up and running as quickly as possible by contacting electricity north west. With regards to the café closure, we always advertise planned closures on our website and social media channels in advance. As Kirklinton Hall is our home there are occasions when the café has to close for private functions, on this occasion it was a small funeral. Balancing expectations has always been one of the more difficult aspects of running the café and, after much thought, we’ve made the decision to close it permanently at the end of this month. Thank you again for your lovely comments and recommendation. We’d love to welcome you back in a year or two to see how Kirklinton Hall & Gardens continues to evolve. Property Owner

Kirklinton Hall & Gardens

Set within a beautiful rural location on the outskirts of Kirklinton, an ancient village in Cumbria, lie the stunning trio of properties offered at Kirklinton Hall. Featuring ample off-road parking, the properties provide well-appointed and contemporary living spaces, set in extensive gardens and serene woodland. This unique collection makes an ideal base for an extended family, a group of friends, or sharing couples looking for a relaxing and memorable break away from the rush of everyday life. A short car journey will bring you into the historic market towns of Brampton or Longtown. Both have small supermarkets, along with a number of excellent independent shops, with a wider range of shopping in nearby Carlisle. The area is well provided with pubs and restaurants if you prefer to forget cooking for a few days! The local area is rich in history having been a focal point for the ongoing skirmishes and battles between English and Scottish forces from pre-Roman times until the time of the formal union between the two countries in 1603. Hadrian’s Wall, just a few miles from Kirklinton, was built to keep out Scottish raiders during Roman times. Carlisle Castle was the principal fortress of England’s north-west border with Scotland for the 500 years leading up to the union of the two countries. Border reivers were raiders along the Anglo-Scottish border from the late 13th century to the early 17th century and most significant houses at that time had a fortified peel tower, both as a form of defence and to warn neighbouring properties of attack. The peel tower at Kirklinton Hall, with a single room at the top of a spiral staircase, is the oldest building on the site and can be viewed by arrangement with the owners. In addition to the historic sites of Hadrian’s Wall and Carlisle Castle, are the Lake District and Northumberland National Parks. Less well known and certainly worth exploring are the North Pennine AONB and Solway Coast AONB. For an unforgettable retreat in Cumbria, make sure you book a stay at the Kirklinton Hall & Gardens.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.
