Oakdene is a welcoming cottage set in the lakeside village of Portinscale, close to Keswick in Cumbria, offering an excellent base for couples or friends keen to explore the Lake District.

With Derwentwater just a short stroll away and walking routes beginning right from the doorstep, it’s ideally placed for making the most of this striking landscape.

Inside, the kitchen/diner is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, kettle and toaster, providing everything needed for easy self‑catering.

There’s space to sit and dine together before moving through to the sitting room, where a woodburning stove creates a warm focal point after days spent on the fells.

It’s a comfortable spot to rest tired legs following walks around Catbells, along the shores of Derwentwater or deeper into the Borrowdale Valley.

The cottage offers two double bedrooms, arranged in a straightforward layout that works well for small groups or two couples travelling together.

Nearby Bassenthwaite Lake provides opportunities for watersports and wildlife spotting, and the market town of Cockermouth is worth a visit for its independent shops and literary links to William Wordsworth.

Ullswater and the dramatic Aira Force waterfall are also within easy reach for further scenic walks.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater.
