“Lovely little cottage with everything you would need.”

(except toilet rolls!!) Driveway a tad neat though !! Location short walk from bus stops and Spar Shop which is in the petrol station and pub at the bottom of the hill. We used the buses quite a lot as it was much easier than trying to find parking spaces and only cost £3.00 single.

Dear Alison, Thank you for your lovely review and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. You are right about the buses, we use them all the time, especially when it is busy in summer. I hope you don't mind if I clarify for future guests that we do provide one toilet roll in each bathroom to get you started. Best wishes, Jules. Property Owner

The property

School Cottage is a charming and comfortable two-bedroom cottage built from Lakeland stone.

It is set in a peaceful elevated position in Troutbeck Bridge, with lovely westerly views towards Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Pikes. Formed from the old Victorian Sunday School, it is brimming with character.

An oversized front door awaits you up a few steps from the front garden, leading to a generous entrance hall with plenty of space to hang your coats and boots.

The lounge features distinctive floor-to-ceiling, west-facing windows, which help to make this room so bright and cheerful and offer breathtaking views of the mountains. The modern fitted kitchen has everything you need to prepare a bite to eat and enjoy it inside or outside in the pretty patio garden while you plan your next day’s adventures.

And when the sun drops below the mountains you can light a fire and relax in front of the wood burning stove in the original stone fireplace. Upstairs, the two bedrooms both feature beamed ceilings and attractive rooflines.

The front double room has a deeply set feature window with even more spectacular mountain views, as well as an en-suite WC and basin.

The rear bedroom is a comfortable twin with a velux window and a cosy cottage feel. The generous sized bathroom includes a relaxing bath as well as a large walk-in corner shower cubicle. School Cottage is ideally situated for a relaxing break, being just a short stroll to a well-stocked shop and a pub, and perfectly placed between Windermere and Ambleside for easy access to these two vibrant towns. Walkers can quickly connect from the doorstep to any of the stunning trails in the area.

Follow in Alfred Wainwright’s tracks by taking the easy but glorious route over Orrest Head to Windermere, keener walkers can head up through Troutbeck over Wansfell Pike and down into Ambleside. There is private parking for two cars at the front of the cottage, but if you want to explore further without having to drive there is a nearby bus stop with regular services to both Windermere and Ambleside, with routes to Grasmere, the Langdale Valley, Coniston and even Ullswater and Keswick.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.
