“We loved returning to this property.”

We hadn’t stayed in December before and found the cottage warm and cosy – it was such a pleasure to return to after a day on the fells. The short access to the Howgill Fells is a wonderful bonus too. There is plenty of storage for a week’s food which is important to us when self catering and the cottage has everything you need during your stay. The whole cottage was clean and fresh and we appreciated the welcome treats too. We look forward to future visits to Bramble Cottage.

“Lovely cottage, clean and tidy with parking space outside the front door.”

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay, the bed was super comfy, and it was perfectly located. The supermarket was a short walk away as were the independent shops in the town. There were lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage without needing to use the car. It was clean and tidy throughout and had good wifi. We would definitely go again.

“Awful. As soon as we walked in it smelt of old fat and dogs.”

The kitchen was really greasy and we had to wash what crockery we needed. I would not have cooked in that kitchen, it was awful. Biscuits left were out of date. Sofas sagged and were really uncomfortable. Carpet needed a good clean. Outside light at the back not working. Banister was sticky as were the tables. When I got upstairs I narrowly missed the fire alarm hitting me on the head as it fell from the ceiling. Cobwebs everywhere. Bathroom smelt musty and damp. The only good this was the comfortable bed. Do not go!

[*please see response below*] Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your stay at Bramble Cottage, however we were taken aback by the content of the review as it does not align with the other excellent feedback we have received and we would encourage potential guests to look through previous reports. In fact, we were disappointed and angered to receive this review! The allegations regarding the state of the cottage upon the reviewer’s arrival do not reflect our information and evidence. We did complain to Sykes about the condition in which the reviewers had left the cottage (including damage caused) soon after we entered on the day of their departure. We regard this review as an aberration. We do provide contact details in the property to allow our guests to speak to us to highlight any issues during their stay. We can then rectify these quickly. Guests are also welcome to call and speak with Sykes if there are any concerns. During the reviewer’s stay they chose not to make any contact to make us aware of any issues. Again, we would welcome potential guests to read other feedback. We have plenty of guests who have been very happy with lots returning to enjoy Bramble Cottage again and again. Property Owner

“Lovely little cottage and plenty enough space for my wife and I and our 14 year old daughter.”

The parking space outside is bigger than it looks on the photos and there was plenty of room for our large family saloon. Our neighbours and the people of Sedbergh in general were really friendly. We live close to a railway, the A19 and the M62 - so we really noticed how peaceful it was at Bramble Cottage which is nicely tucked away, but has the convenience of a Spa shop literally at the end of the road and the main pubs and restaurants of Sedbergh barely a 5 minute walk away. We have only ever passed through Sedbergh on our way to the Lakes before now, but we really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon.

We knew from listing that it was going to be smaller than we are used to which didn't bother us at all. The cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for a lovely stay. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Location was ideal for us to visit both Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Would definitely recommend.

“Small but very cosy.”

The only drawback for us was the ned. Very supportive but just a little too soft. Apart from that - fine. The local Spar - 5 minutes walk was excellent too. Very friendly, apart from Matts Duo cafe. Poor service and a poor response to my Trip Advisor comment.

“We had a lovely week in Bramble Cottage.”

Clean, very comfortable and although quite small it was adequate and well equipped for a couple and a dog. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac it was perfect for walking straight up on to the fells and only five minutes walk down in to the town. We'd definately come again.

“Enjoyable stay.”

Very well equipped kitchen. King size bed was really comfortable. The outside space was very peaceful and definitely a sun trap. Walking distance to the village was a bonus too. Will definitely return in the future.

“We absolutely loved our holiday at Bramble Cottage in Sedbergh.”

The cottage had everything we needed, it felt like home from home, comfortable and the views of the Hills from our bedroom window was just amazing. This is the first time we came to Sedbergh and it definitely wont be the last, the area was beautiful, there is so many walks with, each unique, and the scenery was amazing which ever walk you decide to do. The one we liked best was the Pepperpot and the Akay Estate were you walk through the school grounds and you can still find the beautiful floor tiles from the Akay Estate in the ground, we did this walk three times, just to feel the history of the place. Sedbergh, although a very quaint town, it is beautiful with so much to it and the fish and chip shop "The Haddock Paddock" was one of the best. Highly Recommended and we will definitely be back, not just to the place itself but also Bramble Cottage. Thank you again. The Stones Family (Chesterfield)

“The cottage is clean, comfortable and well situated for visiting Sedbergh and the surrounding area.”

There were a couple of niggles that affected our enjoyment however. First, the kitchen is tiny, maybe two by two metres, and is more properly described as a kitchenette (which was not apparent from the description or photos provided). The lack of space made cooking difficult and unenjoyable. Secondly, the stairgate fitted across the entrance to the kitchen is in the way and presents a trip hazard- we found ourselves stubbing toes and banging knees during our stay. The purpose of the stairgate is apparently to allow visitors with dogs to confine their animal to the kitchen while out. In reality though the size of this property and modest outside space makes it unsuitable for anyone with a dog.

I'm pleased you found the cottage clean, comfortable and well situated. The kitchen, like the cottage as a whole, while small, is well-provisioned. It is actually approx 3m x 2m and in over 11 years I haven't had a similar comment. I'm sorry the stair gate was annoying. Many guests have dogs. I noted you have an infant, and not knowing if your infant was mobile, I left the gate in place for safety reasons. It is very easily removed by turning the wheels at either side. The Welcome pack requests guests to notify of any issues thereby giving us a chance to rectify them during your stay and if you'd let us know we would have been pleased to either advise you over the phone how to remove the gate, or come and done it. “We stayed at this cottage in September 2020, so on this second visit we knew what we could rely upon it however bad the covid restrictions might become, and this part of Cumbria is not as crowded as the Lake District parts are likely to be.”

Indeed, all of the walks we took were not crowded. Excellent features We were very happy to be positioned so close to the fells that it was possible to walk straight to them. Similarly the town is only a short distance away, and can be easily walked to. The cottage is in a nice residential area, and this made us feel secure. Slight annoyances with: The hot water tap in the kitchen has extreme hysteresis, meaning that it would not issue any hot water until it was turned on more than would be expected, then suddenly responds with a bump, and issues too much hot water. Then it has to be turned down quickly to stop this high flow. This was wasteful of hot water ! It was exactly like this in September 2020, and I did report it in my subsequent feedback. The extractor fan in the bathroom was quite noisy.

Similarly the town is only a short distance away, and can be easily walked to. The cottage is in a nice residential area, and this made us feel secure. Slight annoyances with: The two extractor fans, one in the kitchen, the other in the bathroom were quite noisy. The hot water tap in the kitchen had extreme hysteresis, meaning that it would not issue any hot water until it was turned on more than would be expected, then suddenly responds with a bump, and issues too much hot water. In the cottage description, it would be worth mentioning that the living room table (that looks too small for 3 people) does extend to comfortably allow 3 people to dine together.

It was a nice touch to find that tea and coffee had been provided. There was also a pint of milk in the fridge- really appreciated. The cottage is an easy walk into the town of Sedbergh and only a couple of miniutes from the Spar shop. The area is really quiet and the views from the front of the cottage to the Fells are lovely.

“Bramble Cottage is in a lovely, quiet town convenient to The Lakes and The Dales.”

The cottage’s kitchen is well equipped. I don’t mind washing dishes by hand when I can enjoy the spectacular view from the kitchen window. The patio certainly looked tempting, however, the weather didn’t cooperate. The bathroom has a power shower with good pressure. The only note I would make about the cottage for North Americans is the king bed is the equivalent of a queen bed back home.

Great for touring Cumbria or the Lakes. The cottage was spotless and warm with lovely views of the fells from the front. The vase of daffodils was a very welcoming touch and made us smile. Just a shame the weather wasn't good enough to enjoy the little courtyard garden.

Bramble Cottage has been furnished to a exemplary standard, providing for a wonderful accomodation suited to a small family or couple.

The snug sitting room brings the outside in and benefits from lots of natural light.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to prepare sumptuous meals, which can even be enjoyed outside at the table and chairs setup.

Bramble Cottage hosts two bedrooms, offering a king-size double and single arrangments.

Both bedrooms are served by one bathroom which features a bath, shower over, basin and WC.

There a range of walks from the doorstep of this cottage, especially towards the challenging Winder Fell which is not far from the town.

Additionally, a trek across The Howgills is worth a reward with picturesque views of natural beauty.

Further afield, visit the lively town of Kendal, perfect for a night out whether it be at one of the fine restaurants, traditional pubs or bars.

The town is also well-known for its great shopping opportunities through the large shopping centre and narrow alleyways that hold several independent retailers and high street names.

Kendal also offers an impressive 18-hole golf course which overlooks the town.

The Lake District can be reached in under half an hours drive and is definitely worth visit with it being the UK's most popular National Park.

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists.
