“Lakefield cottage was very comfortable and clean, we did enjoy our stay.”

The view of the Cumbrian mountains was absolutely stunning especially when we looked out of the window one morning and saw snow on them. The house had everything that we needed, but we saw notes left in every room. We understand that we need instructions but there is a folder there also, so it would be better to have them in there and the folder to be left on the table or bookshelf. The ironing board also needs to be changed as it is very very tired, I actually used the board and every time I tried to move my item of clothing on the ironing board, I kept catching the very loose piece of material that was attached to it. Also I did not expect to have to find a recycling centre to dispose of my recycling. The nearest recycling centre was in Windermere, which was very awkward as we were going home in the opposite direction. I would have at least expected some kind of recycling bag at the cottage, and maybe an outside light might be put outside so that when we come back in the dark we can see what we are doing.

Dear Louise: Thank you for your comments and we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We'll see to the ironing board cover - thank you for mentioning it. As mentioned in the pre-holiday information that we sent you, there is a recycling centre  just down the road (5mins away) in Hawkshead car park and  another one in Ambleside, so there was no need to go to Windermere. As regards an outside light,  there is an outside light with an external timer button, illuminated, just to the right of the front door. We will check with our next guests to ensure that the bulb doesn't need replacing but it sounds as though you may just have overlooked it. Addendum: yes, the next guests in the cottage kindly confirmed that the outside light was working fine - so you must just have overlooked it. The switch is next to the front door and is illuminated at night. Property Owner

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside.
