Feel close to nature in one of our unique eco friendly chalets. Whatever you choose, quality is guaranteed in all our cottages, as they are all VisitEngland rated 3-5*.
They are complete with sleek kitchens, luxurious bathrooms and WiFi throughout. Many of our properties have wood-burning stoves. They’re the perfect place to relax with your pup at your feet after a day exploring the region’s highlights.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District, Langdale is a tranquil part of England’s largest National Park. With some of the area’s most breathtaking scenery on its doorstep. The iconic Langdale Pikes form the backdrop of this U-shaped glacial valley. With Bowfell and Scafell close by, it is a haven for fell walkers.
Home to the stunning villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile, visitors can soak up the quaint Lakeland charm of the area. With picturesque tarns and rugged fells to explore, Langdale is a wonderful choice for a getaway with your four-legged walking companion. Together you can soak up the sights in the fresh Langdale air. Afterwards, unwind in the comfort of your luxury pet friendly holiday cottage.
Walking
Situated amidst some of the finest landscapes of the Lake District, a stay in Langdale means you have some of the region’s most magnificent scenery on your doorstep.
Walkers of all abilities will enjoy Langdale’s endless rambling opportunities. Pets will love the freedom of the fells. Try a gentle stroll around the blissful Blea Tarn. Or a more challenging 10-mile hike around the classic Fairfield Horsehoe. There are so many routes to choose from that showcase Langdale’s outstanding beauty.
Try one of Wainwright’s favourite walks and climb the iconic Langdale Pikes which rise from the valley floor. Whilst you are descending Pike of Stickle, look out for the intriguing site of the Neolithic stone axe factories, located on the slopes.
Feeling up for an even bigger adventure? You can climb England’s highest mountain, Scafell, from a route starting in Langdale. Bowfell is another spectacular spot. Walkers are rewarded at the summit with panoramic views across the valley.
Outdoor Activities
Fell walking is not the only outdoor pursuit that makes Langdale an adventurer’s playground. The quiet roads around Skelwith Bridge make fantastic routes for mountain-bikers. The craggy rock faces of Pavey Ark and White Ghyll are sure to appeal to rock climbing thrill seekers.
Langdale has many stunning waterfalls for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy. The mighty Dungeon Ghyll Force is not to be missed, and its 40ft drop is particularly impressive when it rains. Don waterproofs and scramble up the slopes to admire the powerful cascade. It inspired Wordsworth’s poem ‘The Idle Shepherd Boy’. Skelwith Force is another beautiful waterfall with a handy viewing platform. It is more accessible for dog owners than the rocky slopes of Dungeon Ghyll.
Langdale Landscape
The beauty of an escape in Langdale is that you can enjoy the tranquility of this remote part of the Lake District. All while only being a few minutes from the most popular tourist destinations.
Our pet friendly cottages in Langdale are equipped with state-of-the-art kitchens and spacious dining rooms. But if you fancy taking it easy then there are some fantastic local pubs and restaurants to try. The 300-year-old Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel has become an iconic piece of Langdale’s identity. With flagged stone flooring and a roaring fire, the authentic walker’s pub is a great place to enjoy a pint of real ale after a day on the fells. They have a hearty food menu too, if you are in the mood for some humble pub grub.
The Britannia Inn in Elterwater is another purveyor of homely pub fayre, with a seasonal menu. This pub welcomes both dogs and muddy boots, making it an ideal place for you and the pooch to refuel after a day of adventures. For a lovely lunch, why not try the Elterwater Café in the village, or Chester’s by the River at Skelwith Bridge. Both of these delightful eateries serve a range of sandwiches, salads and sweet treats. They are happy for four-legged friends to go with you too. Wainwright’s Inn in Chapel Stile is a wonderful pub to enjoy a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. It also has a glorious beer garden where you can sample its wonderful selection of ales and wine.
