The lodge is nestled on the slopes of ancient woodland within the five star exclusive lake frontage setting of Hill of Oaks Park, in a prime lakeside location, with picturesque views across Windermere. Enjoying the privacy that the Park has to offer, yet within a short ten minute drive from bustling Bowness village - Blakeholme Bay View has the best of both worlds.
The Park has a small shop which is open daily throughout the season and has a fantastic array of boat aunching facilities which you are welcome to use. So it's just a short Lakeside stroll for the paper each morning - it surely beats the car! Hill of Oaks also has a fantastic array of boat launching facilities and as a Blakeholme Bay View guest you have access to them all, making it even easier to explore the lake. You just need to bring your boat! Fishing is also permitted with appropriate licenses.
Accommodation in detail
The accommodation comprises of an airy open plan living area with oak flooring throughout and vaulted ceilings. There is a very well equipped kitchen area with stainless steel appliances and a solid oak dining table for two which leads on to the lounge area with leather furnishings, including, a large chair and footstool and two seater sofa, there is also a 40" plasma screen television with all the expected gadgets!
Patio doors lead out to a decked veranda, perfect for al-fresco living, entertaining and of course, watching our beautiful sunsets. The elegant bedroom with sumptuous Egyptian cotton bedding also boasts the fantastic lake views and there is also an iPod/iPhone docking station for those who can't quite leave behind the latest technology! The shower room is complete with power shower and luxurious Egyptian cotton towels, a great way to unwind after a day on the fells!
Blakeholme Bay View is ideally located right in the 'heart of the Lakes', only a few miles from Bowness village - the perfect base to begin to explore all the delights that the Lakes have to offer! Bowness is a contemporary Lake District village on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake and one of the most picturesque destinations in the UK. The village is alive with cafes and restaurants serving local Lakeland delights and there is plenty of choice for an evening out including a cinema, theatre and even a lakeshore nightclub! There are handy greengrocers, supermarkets and sophisticated, independent shops for leisurely browsing. Stunning Lake Windermere offers all sorts of activities. You may enjoy taking a sunset wander on the lakeshore or hiring a rowing boat for a bit of fun. You can also take a car ferry from Bowness to the west shore of Lake Windermere, where Beatrix Potter's magical countryside and the honeypot village of Hawkshead are waiting to be explored.
Walkers will love exploring the paths and fells around Lake Windermere. For example, Gummers How is a short steep route to a viewpoint high above the Lake (well worth the effort!) and the Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank, Bowland Bridge, is the ideal pub to visit for refuelling afterwards. If you are a serious hiker then many of the most spectacular and challenging mountains of the Lake District are within easy driving distance. England's most beautiful lake, Ullswater is a 45 minute drive from the site along one of the most scenic driving routes in England - The Kirkstone Pass. Here you can explore what poet William Wordsworth called "the loveliest of all the lakes" by taking a 'Steamer' from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge. If you take the coast road for 50 minutes you will come to Ravenglass, Lakeland's only coastal village where there is so much to see and do including a Roman Bath House, 13th century castle and the oldest, longest and most scenic Lake District railway - the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. As a guest to Blakeholme Bay View you will receive two tickets to either Ullswater 'Steamers' or the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway so you can really start to explore this beautiful part of England.
