Location
Otterholme is ideally right in the centre of the Lake District, only a few miles from Bowness, an energetic little village on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere. Bowness is a foodie's paradise, full of cafes and restaurants for you to sink your teeth in to, don't forget about the cinema, theatre and even a lakeshore nightclub! There are handy greengrocers, supermarkets and also some smaller independent shops for you to explore, and maybe purchase some memorabilia to remember your holiday in the Lake District. Stunning Lake Windermere offers all sorts of activities. You may enjoy taking a sunset wander on the lakeshore or hiring a rowing boat for an hour on a summers eve. You can also take a car ferry from Bowness to the west shore of Lake Windermere, where Beatrix Potter got much of her inspiration from in the area of Sawrey, you could also take a whistle stop tour round the charming village of Hawkshead.
Walkers will love exploring the nooks and crannies around Lake Windermere. For example, Gummers How is a short steep route to a viewpoint high above the Lake, if you're not afraid of climbing a fair amount of country stairs you will be rewarded by the panoramic views of Lake Windermere, after that you can then rejuvenate at the Mason's Arms at Strawberry bank.
If you here to hike and to hike only, then many of the most spectacular and challenging mountains of the Lake District are within easy driving distance. England's most beautiful lake, Ullswater is a 45 minute drive from the site along one of the most spectacular driving routes in England - The Kirkstone Pass.
Our recommendation to you would be to take a 'Steamer' from Glenridding across Ullswater to Pooley Bridge, you will not be disappointed by the views you a graced with. Another way to spend an afternoon would be to take the coastal road for 50 minutes until you reach Ravenglass; Lakelands only coastal village. Here you can visit the old Roman Bath House a 13th Century Castle and also the Lakes longest, oldest and most scenic railway.
As a guest to Hill of Oaks you will receive two tickets to either Ullswater 'Steamers' or the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway so can experience as much of the Lakes as possible!
