Book from a selection of Autumn Breaks in the Lakes with Lakelovers online today.
Looking forward to fall? Autumn is a time of stillness and reflection in the Lake District and a season that many of our holidaymakers look forward to. From a 2-week cottage holiday during the quiet of school term time, an October half-term escape or a romantic long weekend, an autumn break in the Lake District promises relaxation for all.
Autumn Activities
Activities turn to harvest and fruitfulness as summer leaves the Lake District and we welcome autumn, and there’s a bounty of events to include in your Autumn break itinerary. Foraging is popular at this time of year, and we’d recommend Grizedale Forest as mushroom season flourishes.
October is deer rutting season and one of the best places to glimpse the spectacular male deer’s as they lock antlers is the Kentmere Valley. In the north lakes, Whinlatter Forest on Bassenthwaite Lake is a red squirrel reserve and a great place to stay for autumn. A taste test during a tour at the nearby award-winning Lakes Distillery will warm tummies too.
Enjoy glorious autumn displays at Brantwood garden & Estate, Sizergh Hall & Gardens, Holker Hall Estate, Tarn Hows and Grasmere’s White Moss Woods.
Choose a Lake District cottage near Windermere, Derwentwater, Coniston or another favourite lake so you can walk straight from your cottage door to peaceful waters’ edge. Rise early to catch the brilliance of an autumn sunrise over Ullswater, with lake mists lifting or watch the autumn sun setting on Windermere in a blaze of colour.
