The property

Set high on the hills above Matterdale, in the foothills of Helvellyn and offering beautiful views across the valley, High Brow is a superb property that benefits from a breath-taking location. High Brow has been developed by its current owners to create a high quality Lakeland retreat where guests can relax and socialise in the heart of the Lake District. Those wanting easy access to the hills will love the location, cycle enthusiasts can head out old coach road leading to St John's in the Vale and onto Thirlmere or Threlkeld and Keswick. Wildlife lovers will enjoy watching the buzzards soar high over head or catch sight of the Mardale Golden Eagles or the red deer that run wild on the hill. If you want to take to the water, Ullswater, the Queen of the English lakes can be reached via a beautiful walk alongside Aira Force and is waiting to be explored by canoe, under sail or on one of the fleet of heritage steamers. == With three well-appointed ensuite bedrooms, a welcoming lounge with cosy log burner, a smart kitchen diner, patio and garden, High Brow will continue to be a favourite for many years to come. Accommodation in detail Off road parking is available as you turn into the property, several steps lead down around the side of the cottage and to the front door where you may need to stop a while when you first see the breath-taking view which is visible from all rooms in the cottage. The cottage has been completely re-developed and presented to a very high standard. To the left as you enter the cottage is a spacious kitchen/diner featuring slate floors with underfloor heating, Bosch oven and grill, built in fridge freezer, 4 ring induction hob, washer dryer, and the contemporary units are set off with fabulous quartz kitchen tops. The farmhouse table is the ideal spot for a hearty breakfast, plan your day and share dinner in the evenings. The lounge which is also on the ground floor is a lovely large space which features a beautiful log burning fire, large screen TV, oak floors and beams. Three windows look out over the garden and onto the fells, the perfect view to take in whilst enjoying the super comfy sofas and chairs. Choose from anyone of the three welcoming bedrooms, the first overs a kingsize bed and ensuite shower room, the second a kingsize bed and ensuite bathroom and the third can be presented as either a superking bed or twin beds (please specify when booking) and is complemented with an ensuite shower room. All the bedrooms share the beautiful views across the valley and are tastefully decorated and are a welcome retreat at the end of the day. To the front of the cottage there is a patio with picnic table and a lawned garden that blends almost seamlessly with the surrounding hillside and the stunning scenery beyond. Private parking is available for three cars. A miles walk down the lane in the village of Dockray is the popular local pub, The Royal, with excellent home cooked food and local ales served by friendly bar staff. Location High Brow is in a stunning location looking down to the Matterdale valley and across to Gowbarrow, Place Fell and High Street, high above Ullswater, rightly thought by many to be the most beautiful lake in England. Shops at Troutbeck and Glenridding provide the essentials, with the towns of Keswick and Penrith 15 minutes in either direction on the A66, both with cinema, theatre, restaurants, cafes, excellent shops and supermarkets. There are walks in every direction directly from the house, named after the hill behind. These range from a gentle stroll alongside Aira Force, the most famous Lake District waterfall to a tour of the Helvellyn range via the Dodds and then onto Striding Edge if some adventure is required. Ullswater is surrounded by the fells of High Street, Thornthwaite, St Sunday Crag and Fairfield. The Ullswater Way, a twenty mile circular walk around the lake passes nearby. Due to the location of the cottage, high on the hills, extra care should be taken when accessing the property during the winter months.
