Then there’s Fulling Mill and The Old Stamp House, both of which we’d highly recommend. If you are a lover of cakes, you must take a trip to Chesters by the River. For the history lovers, some ‘must-sees’ include: The Roman Fort Galava, said to date back to 79AD and Bridge House, over Stock Ghyll. This Bridge House is a fabulous building and is over 300 years old. It was once a summer house and apple store for Ambleside Hall. Purchased in 1926 by the people of Ambleside and then given to the National Trust, it is a Grade I listed building. It now houses an Information Centre.
