Nestled on a peninsula just to the south of Lake Windermere is Cartmel, a village that in recent years, has managed to achieve something quite magical. Not only has Cartmel managed to retain its reputation for being an area of unspoilt natural beauty, it’s also become a national landmark for culture and high-end cuisine. In Cartmel, the old and the new are stitched seamlessly together and this is reflected in the range of cottages we have to offer. Among Cartmel’s historic interests is the medieval, 12th century priory, whilst the michelin-starred L’Enclume is celebrated as one of the best restaurants in the UK.
To the north east of Cartmel Fell lies Lyth Valley, which is flanked by Scout Scar and Whitbarrow Scar. The valley has achieved notoriety for its rolling lush landscapes that are strewn with damson trees and is home to a number of villages, such as Bowland Bridge and Crosthwaite. The area is calm, quiet and relaxing and makes for the perfect base from which to explore the many attractions that surround it, including; Holker Hall and Garden, Levens Hall or for something a little different, you could visit Cartmel Racecourse. Alternatively, simply relax and explore all that the beautiful countryside has to offer.
