Lakelovers have some special dog friendly cottages in Cartmel, the oldest village in the Lake District. You can experience the historical beauty of this village with your dog.
Our pet friendly cottages in Cartmel come with large private gardens. Or walks straight from your doorstep, which make for a relaxing holiday with pets. Many of our cottages have wood burners or open fires. They always go down very well with a tired pooch after a day on the fells.
Things to Do
Head out into the lush Cartmel countryside straight from your holiday cottage. Enjoy the splendour of the white Damson blossom in Summer that this area is famous for. And the spectacular views over the Cartmel Peninsula.
A visit to Cartmel’s famous medieval Priory is a must and of course maybe there will be some crumbs for your furry four-legged companion from the village’s world-famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding, sold in Harvey Nicols and Fortnum & Mason no less.
For such a quiet part of the Lake District, there’s lots going on throughout the year. It keeps visitors returning time and again to this peaceful valley. One of the most popular pulls is the famous Cartmel Racecourse, where dogs on leads are welcome. Plus they have busy annual fixtures including dog agility events.
From Cartmel, head for a circular 6.5 mile walk from the Racecourse to Beck Side, Speel Bank (keeping away from the nearby deer farm). Take in splendid views of the Leven Estuary, Coniston Fells and Ulverston’s Hoad tower monument and along the Cistercian Way back into Cartmel.
Need a well-deserved pint and hearty meal after a race around the fell tops? What better than a traditional country pub of which there are many in and around our Cartmel. Plenty welcome dogs too – The Pig & Whistle and The Royal Oak Inn included. We recommend trying the famous local Higginson’s meat served at the stylish 450-year-old Cavendish Arms, which is also dog friendly.
A Pet Friendly Holiday in Cartmel
There are so many hidden gems in Cartmel that a holiday in this picturesque village. The surrounding valley and estuary is sure to create long-lasting memories.
