Hawkshead is perfect for a holiday with your pets. With so many different walks to choose from as soon as you set out of the door, with plenty of paw friendly attractions and eateries along the way. In this area you can’t go wrong where ever you decide to go with your four legged friend. You will find so many walks suitable for all abilities, whether it be a gentle stroll around Tarn Hows or an adventure deep into Grizdale Forest Hawkshead has it all. For those of you up for a bit more of a challenge, Latterbarrow is defiantly worth a visit, standing at 800 foot high and isolated from any other high ground this makes a stunning viewpoint looking out in all directions. Now of course you can’t visit the lakes without walking down to the shores of our famous waters of Esthwaite which provide some beautiful picturesque scenery and is where Beatrix Potter found much of her inspiration.

Wray Castle also offers a superb adventure, nestled on the shores of Lake Windermere, (perfect for playing fetch in the water). The house and grounds have belonged to the National Trust since 1929, but the house has only recently opened to the public on a regular basis. The grounds are open all year round, with picnic areas outside for those slightly warmer and sunny days.

If you fancy having a new adventure and vising more places that the Lake District has to offer without leaving the stunning scenery behind, you can always go and check out the villages nearby. Near Sawery and Far Sawery, two villages nestled side by side, and again famous for their association with Beatrix Potter. From here you can catch the small car ferry across the lake to the village of Bowness, leading up to Windermere, where you can enjoy shore line walks and stroll around villages, with plenty of shops to pop into if you fancy something different. Your Pooch will love the car ferry across where it will be raring to adventure around the Lake District.

If you have made it back to Hawkshead a bit early for dinner, why not pop into the four paw friendly Poppy Red for some homemade cakes, a cup of tea and a browse around the delightful treasures the shop holds.

If cakes will not quite fill the gap and a larger meal is what you are after there are many pet friendly pubs in the village square. The Queens Head, Kings Arms and Red Lion are some of the pet friendly pubs this village has to offer. Or you can go back to your pet friendly holiday home, take your shoes off, put your feet up and enjoy a home cooked meal as you reflect on your day.
