We have Windermere short breaks that are perfect for that much-needed mid-week getaway or long weekend escape. Windermere, in the South Lakes, is less than 30 minutes from the M6 and has everything you could need from a short break. Most importantly, eating and drinking is easy breezy in the bustling Lake District town of Windermere. From an upmarket fish restaurant, Hooked, to Mediterranean, Chinese and Indian cuisine, try something different for each night of your mini-break. Windermere has the quality supermarket Booths right in the centre and is ideal for self-catering holidaymakers. Why not pick up a bottle of wine and some delicious Cumbrian produce and head to your luxury Lakelovers retreat. For more retail therapy, don’t miss a visit to premium kitchenware shop, Lakeland, where you’ll also find a superb café.

Don’t compromise your special time away. Choose from our quality self-catering cottages, that are all VisitEngland 3-5 star rated. Get in touch with us on 015394 88855 to talk more about our short break holidays in the Lake District.

Start your Windermere short break with a climb up Orrest Head, from the centre of Windermere and suitable for all abilities. With stunning views down over Lake Windermere, you’ll see why this small fell inspired famous Lake District writer Alfred Wainwright to go on to write his popular Pictorial Guides of the Lake Distinct.

Millerground, off Rayrigg Road, is Windermere’s top picnic spot. If you want to head onto the lake itself, Windermere Lake Cruises are only a short mile away in Bowness. From there you can enjoy a steam cruise to Ambleside and Lakeside. There are lots of restaurants, bars, a theatre and cinema and of course the world-famous World of Beatrix Potter in the nearby town of Bowness too.

As well as an all-year round events calendar, including art festivals and sporting events, there are also lots of outdoor adventure companies offering lots of exciting activities during your short break in Windermere. Have a look at our Lakelovers Recommends page to make sure you are getting the best deals and discounts during your flying visit.

Why not get the most out of your short break and start your holiday early by leaving the car behind and travel to Windermere on train. You can leave London on Friday breakfast and be enjoying your private Windermere retreat by lunchtime.
